many women like shoes. love them, even. i've got high arches, feet that sweat, and a dinosaur-like gait; so i can't say i feel the same way.

ditto for handbags, which i litter the interior of with an array of cosmetics that inevitably break and spill.

but i do, and have always had, a financially debilitating relationship with all things beauty. this is at odds with my general persona and lifestyle, because as far as my appearance goes, i can be super lazy; and i also run around and get sweaty a lot, which isn't ideal for maintaining one's makeup.

as far as i recall, it's a love affair that began with pots of toxic-smelling 'glitter gel' that was worn on and around the eyes, circa 1997-8, and coloured hair mascara.

in the past, i have trawled the internet for hours reading obscure forum posts and websites, trying to solve a number of earth shattering missions, including: finding the perfect pinky-peach colour powder blush, how best to negate gold tones in ashy-beige blonde hair, whether fraxel or IPL is more suitable for sun damage erasure, is there a dupe for Estee Lauder double wear foundation? and other such conundrums.

i continue to maintain a fruitless quest to find the perfect powder blush/bronzer combo.

i've always wanted to write about these adventures and their outcomes, and hoped to be a beauty editor when i finished my journalism degree (but sadly defected to the 'dark side' of PR). there are just TOO MANY CHOICES in beauty-land these days, and i find any real (ie. unsponsored) experiences with products are what help me make informed decisions when i'm umming and ahhing at the David Jones cosmetics counter for almost an hour.

i'll only write stories about products i want to write about - so rest assured you won't get any regurgitated press releases about miracle blackhead strips (when we all know that they're really just glorified band aids).
